Internet Is The Great Silk Road Of Modern Day

Folks, for those of you who read my ABOUT page and is currently reading these ramblings of mine, mastered in more-less OK English, - let me draw your attention to the fact that there are zillions of pages out there written in any languages but English.

I’m in a mood for preaching, gimme a minute (I promise it wont take long!). To my mind, Internet is kinda divided into two halves by Iron Curtain of sorts - that be the damned language barrier.
There is an English speaking half of Internet and another half which cannot tell “I’m lovin’ it…” from a phrase written in Chinese hyerogliphs - both appear equally meaningless to them.

You ever heard of RuNet (RUssian interNET)? That’s the same WWW sites as you see everyday, but bearing no Latin characters whatsoever (well, most of RuNet sites fall into this category). All of these RUNET sites are sporting Cyrillic symbols - not quite Chinese hyerogliphs in appearance but you wont understand a word, granted - even if you happen to went as far as switching IE’s Options/Character Encoding/Cyrillic-Windows 1251) on.

There are some good 200+ M people in Russia, plus Russian speaking folks in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and other former Soviet Union countries - they’re comfortable in RUNET but those foreign sites in English are totally alien and meaningless for them.

Come think of number of Chinese netters who dont understand a word in English yet they’re comfortable in Chinese Web. Come think of number of Japanese netters…Brazilian netters…Argentinian netters…you got the idea.

Havent got a clue? Look, The Doors’ Jim Morrison once said: “… and inbetween there are Doors” (dont kick me for inaccuracy - I cant recall exact phrase). I speak Russian, I’m fluent in English, I’m blessed to be online - and I’m happy to help my compatriots to locate some bits of priceless knowledge they’re after, just for a modest monetary compensation.
So I can post in OFFLINE local Russian newspaper an ad offering my service to find any information in any language, and voila! - orders start coming in.

Internet is The Great Silk Road of modern day. Formerly, Internet was often referred to as Information Superhighway - I do not seem to see this title anymore, but anyways…

The Great Silk Road served as an ancient trade route between China and the Mediterranean, by means of TGSR exotic goods had being piped from the West to the East and back. It used to connect two very contrasting worlds - East and West: the two
cultures of Asia and Europe.

Nowadays Information Superhighway interlinks The West, The East, The South and The North, so number of contrasting countries/locations just multiplied. Internet pipes in and out exotic information, and exotic services. Err, what’s exactly exotic is? Anything could be exotic - depending on recepient’s location.

That’s the core interest of mine - to find exotic and profitable things and services and benefit from it.
